Simple Beef Roast

I remember having roast in the slow cooker many times while growing up, especially in the fall and winter. It is so nice to come home to a hot meal already done in the slow cooker.

When making a roast, my favorite cut is the chuck roast. Chuck roasts are a little fattier than other cuts, which makes it turn out very tender and flavorful. If you don't want the added fat, my second choice would be the arm roast. Arm roasts are a little leaner than the chuck roast, but still have nice marbling of fat.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 Pound Beef Roast
  • 1 10 Ounce Can Beef Broth
  • 1/2 Cup Water
  • 1 Packet of Au Jus Seasoning
  • 1 Packet Italian Dressing Seasoning
  • 1 Medium Onion (Optional)

Place roast in the slow cooker.

Add broth, Au Jus seasoning, Italian seasoning and water. I always sprinkle some of the seasonings on the roast.

Peel and cut the onion in half. Place one half on each side of the roast.

Cook on low for at least 8 hours. Once the roast if fork tender, reduce temp to keep warm until serving.

I like to serve with steamed vegetables, mashed potatoes or cheesy buttered noodles. When plating drizzle some of the broth over the meat.

The Remaining broth makes a very good gravy base.
