Cinnamon Rolls
These mouthwatering cinnamon rolls are a family favorite that will fill your home with a delectable aroma. My Grandma Hansen has baked homemade bread and buns for as long as I remember, she is the one that inspired me to start experimenting with bread doughs. This recipe is a spin off of her bun recipe.
Ingredients (Rolls)
- 2 Cups Warm Water
- 1/3 Cup Sugar
- 1 Egg
- 1 Tablespoon Yeast
- 1/3 Cup Butter Melted
- 1/2 Stick Butter Softened
- 3/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 2 Teaspoons Salt
- 4 - 4 3/4 Cup White Bread Flour
Ingredients (Frosting)
- 1 1/4 Sticks Butter Salted
- 1/2 Brick of Cream Cheese
- 1/2 Teaspoon Vanilla Abstract
- 1 Tablespoon Milk
- 1 Cup Confectioners Sugar
Combine water and yeast and let sit for 5 minutes. Add sugar, egg, butter, salt and 1 cup flour. Mix until combined.
If not using stand mixer, once you have the flour mixed in, you will move the dough to a floured surface and begin kneading.
Continue to add flour 2 tablespoons at a time until dough begins to form a ball. It is ok if it is still a little sticky, you will add more flour when final kneading is completed on table.
Once ball has began to form, allow mixer with dough hook to knead the dough on low for 10 minutes.
If not using stand mixer knead on floured surface for at least 10 minutes.
Move dough to flowered surface. add small amounts of flour while kneading until the dough becomes less sticky and springs back when pressed lightly.
Move dough to an oiled bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Allow dough to rise in warm area for 1 hour.
Press dough down and move to clean surface. Begin to press out into a big rectangle.
Spread 1/2 stick of softened butter onto dough.
Spread 3/4 cup brown sugar on buttered dough.
Sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon over the brown sugar.
Roll up the dough. Start at one end by lightly pulling and rolling, moving across the entire dough. Repeat until one more roll is needed.
Once rolled, cut dough into 1 1/2 inch pieces. I like to start in the middle and make marks to ensure I end with the number intended. for the 9x15 pan I cut 12 rolls not counting the end pieces.
Place rolls in generously greased pan. Lightly cover with plastic wrap and let rise for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
While rolls are baking mix up the frosting. Place the butter and cream cheese in the mixer bowl and mix until creamed together.
Add milk and vanilla and mix until combined.
Remove rolls from oven. Allow to cool most of the way before frosting. If you're like me, you will sneak one while they are hot and let the frosting melt all over it.
Serve and enjoy.
